Responsibilities:
- Conduct the assessment of senior debt lending requests secured by Real Estate, across debt products including: property investment, property development, bridging, wholesale funding, healthcare & hospitality.
- Supporting our Frontline Bankers in structuring and executing complex transactions.
- Safely utilising a personal delegated lending authority.
- Presenting requests to Banks Executive Credit Committee.
- Capability to become a voter on the Banks Executive Credit Committee.
- Positively participating as a member of the Banks Credit Watchlist Committee.
- Positively participating as a member of the Banks Business Support & Recoveries Committee.
- Reviewing & Approving Valuation Reports.
- Completing 2nd Line reviews of subsectors of the Banks loan portfolio highlighting any areas of risk, recommending suitable remedial action plans
- Analysis of Management Information, Annual Accounts & Compliance Certificates.
- Act as a subject matter expert across all areas of credit underwriting and effective portfolio management.
- Lead and participate in projects to improve loan underwriting sanctioning and credit management processes & policies.
- Assist with providing clarifications over all policy-related matters and proposing process improvements where necessary.
- Maintain a close relationship with the business unit teams.
- Support the Head of Underwriting in any ad hoc queries or projects as they arise.
- Keep up-to-date with all relevant legal and regulatory developments across sectors.
Essential Knowledge & Experience:
- Previous general Banking experience including specific approving of Credit in a second line of defence role for 5+ years within a recognised UK financial institution.
- Previous experience of a broad range of real estate led business sectors.
- Good knowledge of risk oversight and assurance assessments, processes, and reporting.
- Strong knowledge of real estate, mid-market corporate credit underwriting and financial analysis.
- Robust Credit reporting experience.
- Competent user of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- A sustained and recent track record of approving lending requests under an allocated Delegated Authority.
- Experience across the entire debt lifecycle, including distressed debt/restructuring would be advantageous.
- Risk and/or governance responsibilities
- Knowledge of some/all of Basel accords, Forbearance, Credit Risk Regulations and IFRS9 reporting requirements
- Deep knowledge of the regulatory environment
Desirable knowledge & Experience:
- Educated to degree level/relevant professional qualification and/or able to demonstrate suitable level of experience through being a high performing banker with recent and deep real estate finance experience and capability.
