The Role:
As a Project Manager, you will oversee the end-to-end delivery of projects within a dynamic portfolio, collaborating with business functions like IT, Finance, HR, Procurement, and Legal. You’ll manage project scoping, planning, and execution, ensuring projects stay on track with agreed timelines, budgets, and quality. Your role includes building strong stakeholder relationships, managing risks and changes, and driving value through cost-saving initiatives. You’ll also provide budget oversight, ensure smooth project transitions, and deliver effective change management strategies. This is an exciting opportunity for a results-driven leader with a passion for delivering successful projects.
Responsibilities:
The Project Manager reports directly to the Portfolio Lead/Programme Manager and is accountable for:
- Manage the full lifecycle of projects, under a programme or portfolio, against the business or enabling function functions e.g. IT, Finance, HR, Procurement, Legal, etc., in line with the change management methodology which includes:
- Project goal, objectives and scoping the case for change.
- Effective communications, engagement and management of stakeholders and team.
- Supporting the Business Case development with the Portfolio/Programme Manager.
- Project planning of the portfolio and related stage gate and key milestones. Provide regular briefing as required to relevant committees / stakeholders.
- Management of resources (financial, people, other assets).
- Governance oversight and reporting with clear accountability (Steering/ Board).
- KPI management and post project implementation review.
- Operating within set cost budgets.
- Supporting the identification and management of benefits realisation within the project lifecycle.
- Ensure effective oversight and co-ordination of multiple project activities, with particular emphasis on project prioritisation, effective collaboration and matrix management of interdependencies, and escalation and management of relevant risks, issues and change.
- Continuously assess project outcomes and benefits, and make necessary adjustments as required to improve project effectiveness and delivery.
- Performing client relationship management with senior stakeholders of the aligned project.
- Collaborating with business areas and enabling functions to deliver the project into the production environment, whist maintaining operational stability and supporting benefits realisation.
Client Relationship Management
- Build relationships with business areas and enabling functions e.g.: IT, Finance, HR, Procurement, Legal, etc., against the portfolio delivery lifecycle.
- Support the management of communications to business and enabling functions stakeholders, including defining, delivering and owning the stakeholder change strategy and plan.
- Interfacing with other Programme/Project Managers within the Transformation Office to manage dependencies, share knowledge/experience in order to minimise the risks to the portfolio outcome.
Project Delivery Management
Managing end to end delivery of the assigned projects in the portfolio, working with the portfolio/programme manager and supporting delivery capability, throughout each of the project delivery lifecycles phases to:
- Shape projects through initial scoping, planning and stage 0 business case assessments to pipeline intake and prioritisation (Propose phase).
- Mobilise the projects, developing the solutions, scope and content of the programme and bringing in the appropriate levels of resource required to deliver a successful outcome with maximum value (Feasibility and Initiate phases).
- Effectively manage the dependencies between the inter-linked projects/programmes ensuring that they each deliver the agreed outputs, whilst contributing towards the delivery of the overall programme outcome (All phases).
- Agree the project planning, collaborating with the business areas to gain their agreement to the timeline proposed and budget required.
- Support the delivery to the agreed time, quality and cost, seeking opportunities to drive out further cost savings and increased value throughout the programme lifecycle, through improved ways of working (All phases).
- Manage risks/issues to the project outcome and maintaining the project/programme risk log, and escalation of portfolio risk to the PfMO, making judgement calls against all the identified risks/issues and the appropriate levels of mitigation required (All phases).
- Manage change control to ensure projects scope is maintained and any change is formally agreed with the business area and the PMO and that all impacts are effectively logged and managed (All phases).
- Monitor overall progress and initiating corrective action as appropriate. Manage the regular reporting process for projects in the assigned portfolio with the PMO (All phases).
- Provide overall budgetary direction and control of those interdependent projects, working with the Portfolio Manager and Finance Business Partner (All phases).
- Help quantify the costs and business benefits, and support the definition of the stage business cases for the projects (Propose, Initiate and Design)
- ensure the smooth transition of projects into the production environment (Operate phases).
- Ensure the development and maintenance of project change management methods, processes and project delivery artefacts, effectively using these to deliver change (All phases).
Other
- Provide a supporting role in the development and implementation of the Bank’s Change management through the Transformation office:
- Support the development of frameworks and standards for project management governance and control
- Support the development of the project management capability within the Bank’s Change organisation and the business areas
- To proactively facilitate activities to drive continuous improvement and sharing of best practice across the Bank and to provide feedback to the Portfolio Manager and Transformation Director on recommendations for change
- Providing ongoing coaching to develop future talent from within
- Supporting and championing the change management methods and processes
- Day to day management of the project team within the assigned portfolio, managing their behaviour, performance and ongoing personal development.
- Ensuring all non-people related project resources are effectively managed (e.g. licenses, hardware, environments) and re-used during and post project/programme delivery.
Essential Knowledge & Experience:
The successful candidate will have experience successfully delivering Product change projects within a Commercial Bank with a Particular focus on Commercial Lending products.
